I was originally drawn to this book by the author's name. I wouldn't normally choose a political thriller but felt that having watched and listened to Robert Peston on television, I felt sure he was capable of delivering a good storyline.
The story follows 'glory seeking' journalist, Gill Peck who tries to find out what the powerful in politics and business are planning. Here he tries to uncover the truth behind the death of his estranged sister, Clare. As a high ranking civil servant, he believes that knowing some of government's most sensitive secrets may be what has got her killed.
The characters and events in the book are believable, probably as Peston has drawn on his own experience as a political journalist, which gives it an air of authenticity.
I think this book will have more of an appeal to those with an interest in politics, but felt it was a well written and entertaining read.
