Billed as a saga this novel appears to take much from the Catherine Cookson school of storytelling. It revolves around young Kathleen and her snowy escape to the warmth of Home Farm where Jessie Mason and her sons take pity on the young girl and nurse her back to health.

Even from the short excerpt of the opening chapters I am pretty certain that it will be a tale of love overcoming everything and the working class triumphing over the rich Croydon based abuser. More than likely Kathleen will marry one of the Mason boys and live happily ever after with a nice little nest egg from bettering her assailant that has left her battered, bruised and pregnant.

There is a place for this kind of novel and they do provide a cosy distraction to the terrors of the modern world but I am not sure this one will live up to the strengths of those authors that have gone before.
