The book starts with a prologue which I found attention grabbing right from the first short sentence. It make me think of questions, like what the book will lead to, so I carried on reading. Chapter 1 made me feel attached to the main character "the word" as he has different views to his parents and this causes tension between them, which is like how it really is in real life today, with the younger and older generations.

The characters in the book are extremely original and so I know that the author has put a lot of thinking into it, therefore I knew it would be good for the remainder of the 'first look'.

Furthermore, I felt empathetic to every word that is spoken in our everyday language as the book shows that to be spoken the words have to go through torture and end up damaged mentally and physically.
