Was I first interested in the book because of the unusual title and the stunning artwork on the cover? Completely, but it's simple and beautiful, much like the actual book itself.
The Word Trove by Elias Vorpahl is a curious little novel that is made up of a cast of rather unusual characters- all of them being words. I won't tell you much more than that, it's a simple, charming and whimsical story that I would recommend for anyone who enjoys well crafted works.
What's especially commendable is that this is a translated book. At the end of the book we have a note from the translator who discusses their method of solving the problem of translating while trying to keep a sense of the various grammatical details and word play that the original german book has. I can't read a word of german, but I dare say that this was a solid success. It's one of my favourite books I've read in a while and would recommend it to anyone who was looking for their next read.
