This is far more than a road trip novel. This is a tear-jerking, uplifting, empowering, laugh-inducing rollercoaster that explores its themes of friendship, adulthood, grief and adventure with sensitivity and love.

The main characters are great examples of female friendship, despite their obvious differences and backgrounds. Each of them is strong in their own unique way: Thea's easy self-assurance and recklessness brings out Denise's wilder side, and Denise is the quiet, steady rock for tumultuous Thea to anchor to.

Neither character is carefree or perfect, and the slow unweaving of their flaws and vulnerabilities is beautifully handled. I'm easily triggered by some of the topics covered in the later pages, but the author offset the shock of such moments by using them to show the strength of the characters' trust and support and the importance of loving each other at our worst as well as at our best.

By reading this, I gained a whole new appreciation for my close friendships and a far bigger bucket list than I've ever had before. I recommend it to lovers of Thelma and Louise and anyone looking for a heartfelt novel about unlikely companions.
