The plot outlined in the synopsis of Thea and Denise, as well as the film poster style of the front cover and the word play of the similar sounding title, suggested that this book would be a modern day/middle-aged take on Thelma and Louise and the first part attempts to set the scene and provide possible points of interest with the challenges the central characters have had to overcome.

The theme of escapism will be something that resonates with much of the novel's target audience, and (apart from a couple of chapters at the beginning where there's too much description and not enough dialogue) it's written in an accessible way with relatively brief chapters that keep things moving along, but there were one or two predictable sections where, just when it looks like she would go back to her family, you could tell that Denise would decide to carry on with the journey that Thea started.
