I wasn’t sure what to expect with Thea and Denise by Caroline Bond - apart from the obvious link to the famous Thelma and Louise film I was unsure on what the setting of this novel would be.
I have previously watched the film and really enjoyed it and this book didn’t disappoint. Both characters, Thea and Denise were well written and I warmed to them both early on. The complexities of both were really interesting and I felt for both of them throughout the novel.
These characters each have their own challenges and the importance of friendship and family are evident throughout. I particularly enjoyed the focus on strong female characters: Thea, Denise and in particular Denise’s mum. I also really enjoyed the descriptions of the different locations throughout the book, particularly Lillian’s home and the beautiful surroundings.
I enjoyed this and would recommend to others.
