Thea and Denise are both running away from their life for very different reasons but essentially it is a story about being unhappy with their lot. Thea is divorced with a child who would rather live with her Dad and new partner; Denise feels that she is the housekeeper for her husband and sons. Thea was always going on a trip but then Denise came along too.
I found the book hard to get into as I didn't click with either character. However, the more I read the more the journey began to interest me. The story was so much more than the travelling it was about personality, relationships, independence and family connections.
Everyone at some point in their life wants to run away, very few do. Life is a compromise and giving space to those around us. The journey provided some fun excursions which were well planned by Thea. I think the book should make everyone learn to give others space and time to be themselves.
