This is the second book I've read by this author and they were both really relatable and enjoyable to read.
Caroline Bond draws her characters very well and you feel very quickly absorbed into their lives, to the extent that you could almost believe you're with them.
In this tale, which you won't be surprised to hear was inspired by Thelma & Louise, we follow Thea & Denise.
The former is a seemingly successful divorcee who is struggling with the fact that her ex-husband has moved on. New wife, new kids, new house and now her teenage daughter wants to live with him instead of her. Despite surface appearances, Thea has a brittleness about her.
She bumps into Denise a few times, as their paths cross on various random occasions and it's not long before they form a friendship. A friendship that escalates from tentative buddy stage to full blown BFFs when Thea rashly invites Denise on a road trip. As an unappreciated wife/mother, it's an opportunity that Denise grabs with both hands.
What follows is a journey beyond the miles covered in the car.
Great stuff that deals with lots of the worries, issues faced by women of a certain age - I definitely saw myself in elements of both characters!
