I have read and enjoyed quite a few of the author’s books but this is probably the one that I have read so far that I have the least interesting. I spent most of the book waiting for something surprising or interesting to happen and, without wishing to spoil it for anyone, it doesn’t.

The book itself is a pleasant and easy read and the author has a lovely way of storytelling that connects the reader to the characters, but I found it all a bit predictable and the storyline all far to well worn and stereotypical. Thea and Louise are too middle-aged women who meet and become friends at a time in their life when they are going through a number of difficult events. They decide to take a trip together and, surprise surprise, all the answers open up and they have their individual epiphanies all in the space of about a week or so.

Although not to my personal taste, the book is still very readable and is a pleasant escapism type of novel that will probably appeal to a lot of women. I personally would recommend some of the author’s earlier books as better alternatives.
