I was immediately sympathetic to the protagonist, Alyrra. I see her as a bright, strong woman who has constantly been beaten down for being different to her family. There is a good balance of fantasy, history and politics interlaced into the narrative so far, but I can also sense there is more to come, along with a hint of magic?
