I really love retellings, and I loved Goose Girl by Shannon Hale, so when this book was described as a retelling of Goose Girl I thought I'd really enjoy it.

The cover seems very fairytale-esque and I love how bright the colours are so it really jumps off the shelf!

I love the interpersonal dynamics between the characters - though a lot of them seem quite harsh to begin with, I wonder if this is on purpose to contrast against kinder people later on in the book. The brother so far seems like a one-dimensional villain, but most do before we find out their motivations so I'll really look forward to learning about him.

The language is interesting, and it twists some common phrases into what I assume to be how they were spoken historically. Though this does have the affect of pulling me out of the story a little while I figure them out.

I'm really intrigued to see where this goes, and if more elemental 'magic' happens later on! I also can't wait to see the Prince and if he's actually as everyone describes him in this sample.
