Despite having never read The Goose Girl, I thoroughly enjoyed this retelling!

If you're not familiar with the fairytale, then I'll give you a very brief synopsis! Princess Alyrra is traveling to meet her betrothed in the neighboring kingdom. Along the way, she is betrayed by her handmaid, and Alyrra finds herself robbed of her identity and her role as princess.

I absolutely loved Alyrra. She was a fantastically written female character who came across as humble, quiet, and remarkably relatable despite being a princess! Despite the story having some quite abstract plot points, it all flowed really well, and I didn't feel that any parts dragged or became boring. Additionally, I really really enjoyed how well the romance was introduced and structured. Instalove is one of my pet peeves, but the romance in this story was well-paced, had substance to it, and it didn't form the whole central point of the story.

Overall, I thought this was brilliantly written. It was great to be introduced to a fairytale that I had never read before, and I'd highly recommend it!
