Thorn is an enjoyable retelling of the Grimm fairytale The Goose Girl.

Princess Alyrra is brought up by a cruel family. Her father is dead. Her brother is abusive and her mother is very cold and unloving.
It is arranged for Alyrra to marry Prince Kestrin who she has never met. Alyrra is keen to escape from her family but scared to leave as the Royal Family is said to be cursed.
For her journey to her betrothed’s kingdom she is forced to take with her a maid called Valka. Valka hates Alyrra after an incident that occurred years ago and wants revenge. A sorceress appears on their journey and casts a spell that turns Valka into Alyrra and vice versa. Valka is happy as she gets to be a princess and Alyrra is appointed the job of a goose girl. She decides to change her name to Thoreena and her new friends she makes start to call her Thorn.
As the story progresses, Prince Kestrin begins to have suspicions that Alyrra and Valka arent what or who they seem and he starts taking a liking to the real Alyrra.

First of all, how beautiful is the cover of this book! Its so eye catching. The book was wonderfully written and there are some great characters that come into the story however I felt like there wasn’t enough depth to them. I felt that some of the interactions between characters could have been a bit more meaningful.
The book does bring up a lot of issues such as jealousy, loyalty and honesty which were well portrayed. There isn’t too much romance in the story which surprised me as I assumed there would be in the usual over the top fairytale way.

I have given it 3 stars just because I felt like there was just something missing to the story. When I finished it I felt a bit disappointed as it had a lot of potential. I did however like the book and i think that if you enjoy books full of magic and fairytales then this book is one you will definitely enjoy.

Thank you readers first for sending me a copy of this book and the publisher.
