This is a classic trope from a fairy tale, magical story. Princess Alyrra has never fitted in with her family, and she is constantly reminded of this by her abusive family, especially er brother and mother. They don't care about her and just do their own thing, while she suffers in their shadow. This is a retelling of Goose girl and while I know nothing about this book I haven't seemed to miss anything by not reading it in the first impressions read.
