It came as a suprise to myself that I managed to completely devour this book in a single sitting. I simply could not tear myself from its grasp.

This reimagining of the infamous 'body-switch' sees ajaded maid Valka switch bodies with the soon-to-be betrothed Princess Alyrra whilst the pair are travelling the Princesses new kingdom.
Whilst the maid initially gets her wish of living the lush, lavish lifestyle of a Princess and seeing the real Princess become the village goose girl and cleaner. However, the plan backfires when the Prince isn't enamoured with his new Princess and takes a keen interest in the headstrong, kind hearted goose girl.

Whilst in an unfamiliar kingdom, in a very unfamiliar position Alyrra takes everything in her stride to make her way whether as a Princess or not. Happily free of her abusive family, Alyrra renames herself Thoreen and finds herself a new family amongst a group of villagers.

Whilst Thorn is a YA retelling of The Little Goose Girl, I was very surprised to find this novel explored themes of jealously, family issues and loyalty in a mature yet fantastical manner. Thorn has none of the cheesy love triangles that YA is known for whilst also managing to provide enough of a love interest theme to keep this fresh and giving all the tingles that come with a fairytale romance.

Thorn is a wonderfully written fantasy set in a richly developed kingdom. Perfect for fantasy and YA fans alike. I urge you to pick up this novel and delve in for yourself.
