I was intrigued by this book’ cover and premise. I enjoy fantasy fiction especially where the main protagonist is a young girl coming of age. The novel begins as such, a young princess dressed in shabby clothes overlooked by the family. Early on you see other characters coming to the forefront, our protagonists friends and foes. You begin rooting for characters.

The writing style reminded me of Holly Black and Naomi Novic. I could immediately picture the character and setting, with the world building littered through the piece gradually building up. There’s lots of dialogue but it’s not forced and is well mixed with the description creating a quick pace whilst still allowing for character development.
