I am a sucker for retellings so I was so excited when I got a copy of this. I dived straight in and I ended up really enjoying it. I admit goose girl isn’t my favourite fairytale and this book did take me a while to get into.
The main character isn’t strong and she is passive about what happens to her. I did like Alyrra but I did not connect to her personally.
There is magic, talking horses, thieves and royalty with secrets. Also there isn’t much romance in this book which was refreshing in a YA fairytale.
This has parts where the story is light and nice but there are other parts that are darker than I expected. There is character deaths. Overall I did enjoy this book more than I expected but it isn’t my favourite retelling.
