I loved this book so bad that after I finished it I couldn't enjoy anything else. I had to dnf my next book because my expectations were too high. So thank you, Intisar Khanani, for this beautiful book that killed me!
It is a retelling for The goose girl by Grimm Brothers. I haven't read the story but I saw the cartoon Simsala Grimm so I had a hint about the idea of the story. And I really loved what the author accomplished. Her writing is beautiful and easy to follow. I wanna read something else by her.
What I love the most in the story it's that Alyrra is not that kind of powerful, sass princess. Her only power is kindness. She cares about her friends and her people, but she also wants to be free. Another thing it's that this story is not the usual fairytale. It has subjects as violence, rape, cruelty, death and it gives you a lots of feelings.
