Alyrra is unhappy with her royal life and is displeased she has been betrothed to Prince Kestrin.
Setting out to her new kingdom for her forthcoming wedding she is tricked by a sorceress and turned into her travelling companion, Valka who loathes Alyrra who is pleased when they switch bodies.
Now Valka is betrothed and determined to make Alyrra pay for past injustices by making her the local goose girl.
Alyrra is happy with her new common life but when Kestrin is in danger from Valka and the sorceress she finds she has to choose to keep quiet and ruin her new lifestyle and be thrust back into life at court or maybe let Kestrin die.
Can her conscience let her be silent against the magical enemies of the Royal family?
This was such an inventive and enjoyable fantasy, though it seems to work perfectly well as a stand alone I feel more of the story could be told and am already hoping for a sequel.
The little extra tale, "The bone knife" included at the back of the book was also a nice touch and leads onto a further novel involving those characters in 2021.
Never read this author before but certainly one I would read again in future.
