The main character is likeable and relatable. The first couple of chapters hint at an interesting backstory which makes the reader want to continue. The use of 'honest' as a veiled insult to Alyrra is particularly intriguing as this is not something that is usually used as a negative trait but at the same time gives nothing away.

I felt that perhaps there were too many characters introduced in a short time, which could lead to confusion. Naming all of the servants for example seemed unnecessary, especially since they only appear to be side characters who don't impact the story. I also felt that at times the use of short sentences affected the overall readability of the book. This was only a minor observance however and didn't stop me from wanting to read on.

Overall, a solid start to a novel that definitely drew me in and left me wanting more.
