I really enjoyed this book. It is a retelling of a fairy tale I am not familiar with, The Goose Girl. The highlight for me would have to be the characters and the dialogue. Intisar does a great job of fleshing out even the side characters and making you care for them. The tension throughout this book, and particularly shown in the dialogue, makes for an exciting read. There is a lot of scheming behind people's words. The author doesn't shy away from including heartbreaking moments and this book caused me a lot of emotional turmoil. Everything comes together nicely at the end and there is a plot twist I didn't see coming. I also like how our main character Alyrra begins as a fairly passive character but eventually finds her strength. I would love a sequel to this book so we can see what is next for her and learn more about some of the supporting characters. I have dropped a star because parts of the book were slow moving and I would have liked more magic. Still, I fully recommend this book. I am so glad it is being republished so more people can read it.
