Thorn is a magical retelling of The Goose Girl, an old fairytale that I didn't really know much about. It centers around a princess who's identity is stolen and switched with a girl who hates her, and is more than happy to marry the Prince of a far off land in her stead.

"Thorn", as she comes to be known, is painfully timid and passive, but her character development throughout the book is satisfying as this changes. The supporting characters are well written and contribute to building a rich a complete world.

The plot is very slow, and slightly arduous at times. Everything takes a long time to happens, but I found that gave it the feel of a sweeping fantasy that could spawn a multitude of stories in the same universe.

The ending was a little strange, and at times I wasn't completely sure what had happened. It felt like quite a rushed ending, taking up only a few chapters when far less important situations had been described over three times as many pages.

Overall, I did think that it was beautifully written and well constructed. My gripes are minor, and despite them I did still enjoy the book.
