I devoured this book within the first two days of receiving it because it was so good!
Princess Alyrra is a character that many can relate to as she embodies fierce ideals. Her story was easy to follow but pleasingly complex in its portrayal. Khanani is such a talented writer and I was hooked all the way through. The writing was beautifully formal yet understandable. We really get a sense of the inner workings of Alyrra's mind as the plot develops along with her character.
Despite not knowing the original tale of The Goose Girl, there was a fairytale quality about this book that kept me enthralled the whole way through. Although I was expecting a romance/fantasy book, there wasn't much romance featured with her relationship with Prince Kestrin. I was unexpectedly pleased with this as it allowed her to demonstrate her strong qualities as an independent female protagonist.
Definitely one I'll reach for again and be recommending to friends and family. Thank you to Reader's First for this copy in exchange for a review (my first win!).
