The shocking opening chapter is sadly all too chillingly realistic in a year of horrific murders and attacks within the UK, particularly as it is set in Cardiff, one of many twists in the story.

Mike Thomas sets off at a cracking pace, dragging the reader along with him , into a world of acerbic observations, and difficult characters which, having read his career history in the police, I am sure is based on fact.

The tale races along, with an interesting and likeable main character in DC MacReady, not always the case in these types of novels, and the reader wants him to have the chance to prove himself. The dialogue is sharp and efficiently moves the story along. I think this is a crime novel that men would enjoy , as it has a good strong male voice.
