Sharp wit
Effie identifies as a failure in everything from school to work and romance. Kate is a poor long term friend, self obsessed, successful at everything, which equates to money and a man, which she rubs Effie's nose in.
This isnt what I was looking for but its so well written. From the first perspective you get all of the funny inner monologue, wishing Effie would be as harsh with Kate as she is with herself.
So we have a likeable lonely character and a man she meets by chance. The characters make this an inviting read. An excellent start, worth a rainy weekend of self isolation, assuming you are well stocked in toilet rolls.
