You caught me hook, line and sinker at, "But now – after years of unadulterated
disappointment – entitlement had transformed into self-pity,
failure was inescapable, ageing was in full swing and death
seemed like a quiet holiday."

Abso-frickin-lutely.

As a 34 yo mother, wife and Teacher this just smacked me upside the head and was so relatable I couldn't believe I hadn't said it out loud myself.

Effie sounds exactly like the kind of protagonist you can relate to; she isn't super cool or barbie-plastic-fantastic and she appears to have a witty edge that makes her entertaining and likable.

I enjoyed the element of romance creeping in and the promise of more to come after the first look whet our appetites. Excited to see how Effie's story ends.
