A book with a romantic plotline (something I usually tend to avoid), but this is braver than the average chick lit style book and touches on deeper themes such as alcoholism.

The plot revolves around the central characters of Effie and Theo, who are without a doubt flawed and troubled. At times I didn't like either of them all that much. From the beginning of the story, I found Effie hard work to read, self indulgent and basically just too whiney. That said, I did warm to her and the changes within her character come across as the story progresses.

There are some surprises along the way and I didn't expect there to be as much darkness as there was, as the cover perhaps makes it look a lighter read.

All in all, an enjoyable read. The characters took their time to grow on me, but by the end I was eager to find out what would happen to them.
