Very Nearly Normal centres around the life of Effie, a woman in her late twenties. Effie has never really known what she’s doing with her life. She still lives at home, has had a string of disastrous relationships, a job going nowhere and she’s unbelievably clumsy.
I found the first half of the book quite hard to get into, I just couldn’t relate to Effie, I found her very unlikeable. She’s constantly seems to blame everyone around her, is envious of everybody else and argues with her mother like a teenager.
Things change when she meets Theo, to begin with I was worried this may be a “man of my dreams solves all my problems” cliche but actually as the story went on Effie starts to evolve and grow up. By the end I’m rooting for her.

Overall I though it was an ok story. I may look out for the author again.
