Clichéd and Predictable

I read this book because I was looking for something different and I thought this story would be devoid of the usual clichés associated with this genre. Unfortunately, my initial assumptions were incorrect; the book was predictable and mundane, and I'm sad to say that I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as I thought I would.

The main character, Effie, came across as very negative and immature and I found it hard to warm to her. Her decision making was largely based around a list, rather than good logic, and her actions did not seem well thought out or plausible. The story itself was cheesy, unrealistic and poorly paced. The ending felt predictable and rushed, with Theo's revelation featuring too late in the story for my liking. The cover design also failed to impress me; seahorses are mentioned once in relation to Effie's former relationship and I'm unclear as to how they relate to Effie and Theo's own story.
