This is a story about Matilda Effie Heaton, which Effie is quick to point out spells MEH; which is what she builds her life around, with a dollop of failure. It's this attitude that actually is stopping Effie living life, and I guess, like many readers, I found Effie hard to tune into, and she is fairly annoying to begin with. It's only after the efforts of Theo that her life begins to change.
There's a slow revealing of background information that adds weight and depth to the story, and once secrets begin to be revealed I couldn't put the book down.
