This is a funny, wry story. Effie is the narrator and life has been very hard on her. When we meet her her life is going no where. However a chance meeting with Theo suggests this won't be the situation for long.
Effie is funny, very self deprecating. However I did find her self pity a little much. She rightly is sceptical when the good looking Theo approaches her. I was glad this was the case as this is how anyone would behave. Sometimes in fiction characters act in ways which are just not plausible.
Despite Effie's lack of excitement, within a few chapters that all seems destined to change. She is a likeable character the reader will want to succeed.
