The first chapter, whilst giving a good insight into Effie’s mind, is quite negative to get through but the book evolves so well from that point. Effie expects the worst and gets it, she’s given up trying as she has so little expectation from life. When chance throws Theo in her life she has so little self confidence to believe he will be around for long she struggles to let him in however he sees what she fails to and perseveres. Theo is a lovely character, so positive and easy to be with yet quite shuttered about his past. The chemistry between both builds so well through the book but it’s the impact he has in Effie that is so heartwarming. I loved this book, Effie is such a multifaceted character, one of the best female characters I’ve read about in quite some time and this is so genuinely heartwarming, I just can’t find fault.
