I really enjoyed reading Very Nearly Normal (VNN). Effie is a very amusing character and I found the first few chapters really quite funny due to her cutting humour. Not too far through, VNN becomes more serious and less light hearted. Theo is a lovely contrast to Effie: fun, carefree and friendly. Together they make a good pairing. VNN is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster and I think it is a credit to Hannah Sunderland's writing and characterisation that I felt so invested in the story. There are some portions which are fairly predictable but I think that much is clear from the blurb and certainly there is more depth than a lot of other similar stories. I would definitely recommend this for someone wanting a decent read but not too demanding.
