Having just finished reading 'Eleanor Oliphant is completely fine' and thoroughly enjoying it, I thought 'Very Nearly Normal' would fill the hole. However, I found it took much longer to warm to the main character Effie, who, like Elenor also has quite a liking of alcohol and whose main grounding in life is her job. Nonetheless, I didn't think she was as likeable from the outset and found a jarring with her choice of language on more than one occasion. As the novel progressed I did get more involved with the romance of the book and really liked Theo. I don't think the plot uncovered anything sensational and this probably won't be a book that I return to for another reading but it was reasonably entertaining and I'm glad I read it.
