On the surface, Effie appears to be a lost cause. In her late twenties, she drinks too much and dislikes herself even more, while she has a job that is going nowhere. Still living at home with her parents, her best friend is moving onwards and upwards with their life while drifting away from Effie. She is on a mismatched online date with someone else when she meets Theo who is eavesdropping. Reluctant to fall in love again she makes every effort to be unloveable while slowly falling in love. But there is a secret that has the potential to tear them apart and change everything. This is both romantic and heartbreaking. A great read if you enjoy authors like Jojo Moyes or the character Bridget Jones.
