What a really lovely book! A proper bit of escapism, a book about finding yourself, hope and the perception we all have of ourselves and the lives of our friends in this social media driven world.
Effie is lost, she works in a book shop with Arthur, who has his own love interest to shyly pursue, which develops as a heartwarming back story. Effie feels that she should have achieved more in life and buries her sorrows frequently at the bottom of a bottle of wine. Her mum is worried about her alcohol consumption and so is Effie at times, while this isn’t a story about overcoming addiction, it reminds us of how we all try and bury our feelings under some activity or other to crush negative feelings - we do this with work, alcohol, sport amongst other things.
