The opening chapters of this book could be so many of us 40 and 50 somethings who have grown-up children out there in the wider world. Forging their own paths which are disparate from their upbringing. Not ringing home often enough and visiting even less. They are a tale of long marriage and the compromises made to stay together, to have children together, to forge careers. Separate and yet together, held their by genetics and a human need for continuity and safety.

Looks to be an interesting but very dark and disturbing read. The First Impression leaves off just as the main protagonists world is about to come crashing down around her ears and I fear for her sanity as events unfold, as they surely must.

I'm not sure I really want to read of the demise of her hope but fear that I must.
