I'm not quit sure the novel achieved the level of suspense the author was hoping for, Elina Hirvonen has however shown the turmoil one mother feels havng a son that is closed up with very little emotion, I'd say this novel is based more around the family life rather than the actual events leading up to the son Aslak joining a group more about the mother and sisters relationship with there son/brother!
When Time Runs Out wasn't what I expected and the ending left me feeling a bit deflated, I feel personally the story should have started with the son shooting then flit back and forward to how this affected everyone from before and after the events!............................................
