I really enjoyed this novel about three women who are connected in some way in Germany at the time of the war. Marianne and her husband are resistors to Hitler and later she connects with two other women whose husbands have died for the same cause. The book is about the womens lives before and after the war. The three women all have different lives but the time they spend at the castle bonds them in some way. I felt that the book was quite slow paced but I wanted to read on because I was engrossed in their lives. The war clearly affected the way that they thought and lived. Ania for me was the most interesting character who tried to forget her past but just needed to survive for the sake of her children. All in all a very thought provoking read.
