Darkness within celebrity culture

Set in a dystopian world where people value fame above all else. A little girl has gone missing and the story revolves around people casting a narrative which orbits their hyper inflated egos, crocodile tears not blemishing their makeup. Quite a dark book really, but quite well written.

Worth a read if you enjoy “want it now celebrity culture”. It reads like watching the aftermath of a car accident, you don’t want to turn the pages but your thumb has a phantom convulsion to maintain your exposure to the words.

There’s not much to warm you to the characters, they are all self obsessed egomaniacs with a love of gold and pearl handled mirrors.

Written strategically, to begin the shock and awe, then sporadically going back in time to unveil the characters and buildup to the event. I’m not sure this works with regards to making a clear and concise story. But it does engage you well, if it had started with the central characters daily lives, it would have been a terrible read, so the author has made a good choice there.

The writing style is not my favourite. Fan culture, you-tubers, big brother; all hold zero interest to me. But it’s written well enough that I would read it before balling up the pages to start a fire. So give it a try, it may be just right for you.
